March Events
March will be a quieter month for us as we enter into the mid-part of the Lenten Season. We will of course have our standard monthly events, and with the promise of warmer weather, we hope to see many of you at the many outdoor events we have scheduled this month.
The most exciting event this month has to be the St. Joseph Feast Day Dinner. Technically, March 19th is the Solemnity of St. Joseph which ranks it higher than a Feast Day, and since the 10th century, this date has been observed as the principal feast day of St. Joseph in Western Christianity and commemorates the life of Joseph. There are many traditions and customs that surround this day, and many of them come from Italy.
In celebration, we ask that all members attend Mass together that night at 5pm and come together afterwards for an Italian Feast lovingly prepared by many members of our group. In order to give them ample time to prepare the pasta dishes, salads, breads, and desserts for the evening, we ask that all interested families register by March 15th at 5pm. The cost for the dinner will be $5 per person with a $25 maximum per family.
In keeping with the traditions surrounding this celebration of husband of the Virgin Mary and Jesus' foster father, the committee will also be setting up a St. Joseph's Altar that evening. They have also asked that all families, as they are able, bring one non-perishable canned good per member of their family to donate to the St. Mary Magdalene Food Pantry.
To learn more about they many wonderful traditions surrounding this tradition, please register to join us that evening.
As always, don't forget to RSVP for the events so the program planners can do their best to make the events a successful one.
